For many, the day begins with an alarm at 5:45 AM.
But this morning is different.
You wake up, get ready, and step out with purpose. No hesitation. No excuses. Just the simple choice to run.
The streets are quiet. The air feels fresh. The city is just beginning to stir. And this time, it feels different—because you are not running alone.
Across the country, thousands of runners are doing the same thing: stepping out, logging their kilometres, and building something bigger together.
That is where the India Running League (IRL) begins.
What the India Running League actually is?
The India Running League is India’s first structured, year-round running platform a league in the truest sense. Not a single race. Not a once-a-year marathon. A living, breathing season where your consistency, speed, and community add up to something permanent on a national leaderboard.
2026 is Season 0 the founding year. The year IRL is built, the rules are established, and the very first generation of IRL runners becomes the bedrock of everything this platform grows into. There is enormous pride in being one of the first. Consider this your invitation.
The philosophy is straightforward: a nation of a billion is stronger together than apart. IRL is not built on city rivalries it is built on the idea that runners in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh are all threads in the same fabric. Every kilometre you log powers your personal Trophy Cabinet, your Club’s leaderboard, and a season-long challenge designed to make you measurably, verifiably fitter by the time the Stadium Finale arrives.
Your starting line: Step, Stride & Scorch
It’s our promise to fair play and not getting overwhelmed.
Your Starting Line: Step, Stride & Scorch
Our promise to fair play — and to never letting the league feel out of reach.
Here’s a truth most running platforms quietly ignore: not every runner is the same, and pretending otherwise doesn’t level the playing field — it just tilts it toward whoever already has an advantage.
A first-time runner logging 15 km a week has no business competing on the same leaderboard as someone doing track intervals at 4:30 pace. Putting them together doesn’t inspire the beginner — it discourages them into quitting by week two. IRL refuses to let that happen.
So we built three tiers. Not to sort runners into boxes, but to make sure every single person who joins the India Running League is competing on a board where their effort actually counts, their progress is genuinely visible, and their consistency is the thing being rewarded — not just raw speed or mileage they haven’t earned yet.
IRL meets you exactly where you are. One of these three tiers is a perfect fit for your training right now. Not where you hope to be in six months. Right now. Start there. The leaderboard will take care of the rest.
TIER 1 — Step: The Habit-Building Challenge
For runners doing under 20 km per week and beginners building their first real running habit. Minimum 3 km base run. Every session counts, every session is rewarded. This is your gateway into the IRL season.
TIER 2 — Stride: The Volume & Balance Challenge
For runners covering 45 km per week, training 5 days, building toward a 10K or Half Marathon. Finisher criteria: 300 km total, 45 runs, 6:30 avg pace. Earn your Stride Finisher Badge.
TIER 3 — Scorch: The Performance & Discipline Challenge
For runners clocking 45+ km per week with tempo runs, intervals, and progression sessions. Finisher criteria: 540 km total, 48 runs, 6:00 avg pace. Scorch completion is a mark of serious athleticism.
The Gamification Engine: Points & Your Daily Cap
Here is where IRL stops being a running app and becomes something closer to a sport. Every qualifying activity you log earns you points. And points change behaviour — not by threatening you, but by giving every Tuesday evening jog a number, a rank, and a place in a larger story.
Points reward the three pillars that define a runner: speed, distance, and consistency, with weighting that varies by event type. The specific points available for any race, event, or challenge period are always shown clearly on every IRL event page — so you can plan your season strategy before you register, not after. Transparency is a feature, not a footnote.
The Trophy Cabinet: Five Tiers of Achievement
Points get you on the leaderboard. The Trophy Cabinet is what gets you out of bed at 5:45 AM, every morning, long after the novelty has worn off. It is a tiered personal reward system — a record of your growth across the season that accumulates independently of where you rank against others. Even if you’re not topping the city leaderboard, your cabinet fills. Progress is always visible. Your commitment is always recorded.
• Core — Your foundation. Earned through consistent qualifying activities in your chosen tier.
• Challenge — Earned by completing specific challenge targets within the season period.
• Milestone — Awarded for hitting cumulative distance, streak, and points milestones across the season.
• Season — Season-end recognition for completing your tier challenge and contributing to the league.
• Prestige — The highest tier. Reserved for runners who complete the Yearly Puzzle and sustain elite-level consistency across multiple seasons. Rarest of all.
Notice the Prestige tier mentions the Yearly Puzzle — IRL’s season-long hidden challenge that only reveals itself fully to runners who stay engaged across all four seasons of the year. Completing the Yearly Puzzle is one of IRL’s rarest accomplishments, and the Prestige trophy is its permanent mark in your cabinet.
The Club: Where Community Becomes Your Greatest Training Partner
Running alone builds fitness. Running with a Club builds something more powerful: accountability that shows up even when your motivation doesn’t. Every IRL runner can be part of a Club — a team whose collective points aggregate onto a Club leaderboard running parallel to the individual standings. This is where IRL generates its most powerful emotional fuel: you are no longer running for a number. You are running for people who notice when you’re missing.
FitFunda: Your IRL Command Centre
Getting started on IRL is a two-step process. Most platforms stop at Step 1. IRL doesn’t.
Step 01 — Create Your IRL Profile
Head to indiarunningleague.com/events. Enter your name, city, age group, and current weekly mileage. Choose your tier. Your profile goes live immediately — your challenge clock starts, and you appear on your city’s leaderboard.
Step 02 — Download the FitFunda App
FitFunda is your IRL training hub — activity logger, points tracker, Trophy Cabinet viewer, Club leaderboard, and community feed. Link Strava or Garmin and every qualifying activity syncs automatically. This is where your season becomes real.
FitFunda also hosts partner and sponsor activations that generate additional points outside your core tier challenge — IRL’s event ecosystem delivering fresh motivation at regular intervals across the four-season year.
Miles for a Meaning: Running That Gives Back
IRL CSR PROGRAMME
Every kilometre you run inside the IRL ecosystem can carry a pledge. Miles for a Meaning lets individual runners and partner brands tie their activity to social causes across India.
When you pledge your miles to a cause, your IRL season becomes two things simultaneously: a personal fitness journey and a measurable act of impact. When brands activate through the programme, their sponsorship of the IRL ecosystem translates directly into community benefit — tracked, reported, and genuine.
Running has always felt like a personal victory. Miles for a Meaning makes it a shared one.
The Stadium Finale: 29 Hours That Change Everything
Every training block needs a destination. Every season needs a crescendo. In IRL, that destination is the Stadium Finale in Pune — a 29-hour festival featuring four race formats:
• Precision Speed — timed pace challenge
• Team Synergy — relay and club format
• Ultimate Test — the flagship distance event
• PWD Inclusion Race — for runners with disabilities
All four run within the same festival window. The Finale is a paid entry event, but strong leaderboard performance earns free or discounted tiers — another reason every run between now and then genuinely counts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the India Running League?
The India Running League (IRL) is India’s first structured, year-round running platform. Unlike a standalone race or annual marathon, IRL runs as a season — with four three-month periods — where every kilometre logged earns points, ranks you on a national leaderboard, fills a personal Trophy Cabinet, and contributes to a Club standing. Season 0 launched in 2026.
How does the India Running League work?
Runners register at indiarunningleague.com/events, choose one of three tiers (Step, Stride, or Scorch) based on their weekly mileage, then download the FitFunda app. Every qualifying run earns points across three pillars: speed, distance, and consistency. Points accumulate on a city and national leaderboard. The season ends at the Stadium Finale in Pune.
What are the IRL running tiers?
IRL has three tiers. Step (Tier 1) is for beginners and runners under 20 km per week. Stride (Tier 2) is for intermediate runners covering approximately 45 km per week targeting 10K or Half Marathon. Scorch (Tier 3) is for advanced runners doing 45+ km weekly with tempo and interval sessions. Each tier has its own leaderboard, finisher criteria, and Finisher Badge.
What is IRL and how is it different from a regular running event?
The India Running League is a year-round structured running platform with four three-month seasons. Unlike a standalone race, IRL gives every run you log a cumulative context — points, a leaderboard, a Trophy Cabinet, and a Club to run for. Season 0 is underway in 2026.
What are the five Trophy Cabinet tiers?
Core, Challenge, Milestone, Season, and Prestige. Each tier represents a deepening level of achievement. Prestige is the rarest — it requires completing the Yearly Puzzle across IRL’s full four-season year.
Is IRL registration free?
IRL is an event-led platform. Individual event registrations carry entry fees set by event organisers and listed on each event page. The Stadium Finale is a paid entry event, though strong leaderboard performance earns free or discounted tiers. Additional revenue comes from the FitFunda app ecosystem, partner and sponsor activations, and the Miles for a Meaning CSR programme.
What is FitFunda and why do I need it?
FitFunda is the companion app ecosystem for IRL and Step 2 of your onboarding. It is your activity logger, Trophy Cabinet tracker, Club leaderboard, and community hub. You can link Strava, Garmin, or Nike Run Club, or log manually. Without FitFunda, your IRL season has no home base.
Which city hosts the Stadium Finale?
The IRL Stadium Finale is held in Pune, India. It is a 29-hour festival with four race formats: Precision Speed, Team Synergy, Ultimate Test, and the PWD Inclusion Race for runners with disabilities. It is a paid entry event, but strong leaderboard performance earns free or discounted entry tiers.
What is Miles for a Meaning?
Miles for a Meaning is IRL’s CSR pledge programme. Individual runners and partner brands can tie their kilometres to social causes across India — making your training a measurable act of community impact, not just personal achievement.
